Zanzibar Beach Escape

We share the Tanzania we've explored, lived, and come to know deeply.
The Most Romantic Country You Haven't Considered Yet
Most couples think Maldives, Bali, Santorini. A handful think Tanzania - and they are the ones who come back with stories nobody else has.
A private tented camp in the Serengeti means waking up to silence, then birdsong, then a distant lion. Breakfast with a view of the plains. A game drive that belongs entirely to you. Sundowners on a kopje at dusk with a glass of wine and no other vehicles in sight.
Then Zanzibar at the end. White sand, warm water, the scent of cardamom from the old city. It is the combination that people describe years later as the best trip of their lives.
Two Ways In
Both start with the island. One stays there. One combines with the Serengeti.

Zanzibar Activities
What to Do
Mnemba Atoll Snorkeling
One of the top snorkeling and diving spots in the Indian Ocean. Coral gardens, sea turtles, reef sharks. A half-day by boat from the northeast coast.
Stone Town Tour
A UNESCO World Heritage site. The old city is a layered archive of Omani, Indian, Portuguese, and British influence. Best explored on foot with a local guide who knows what's behind the carved doors.
Spice Farm Visit
Zanzibar earned its name as the Spice Island. A working farm tour puts cardamom, cloves, vanilla, and nutmeg in your hands. Half a day, richly sensory.
Dhow zonsondergangcruise
The traditional Swahili sailboat out on the water at dusk. Sundowners, the Stone Town skyline going gold. One of those things that photographs cannot quite capture.
Gevangeniseiland
A short boat ride from Stone Town. The island holds a population of Aldabra giant tortoises — some over a century old. Historically, it was a quarantine station and holding facility during the slave trade era.
Zanzibar Questions, Answered
Everything you need to know about planning your beach escape
What is the best time to visit Zanzibar?
Year-round, with a qualification. June to October is the most reliably dry and sunny. The short rains in November to December bring afternoon showers but mornings are clear. April to May is the heaviest rain season - possible but not ideal. Zanzibar is genuinely one of the most weather-consistent beach destinations available.
Should I combine Zanzibar with a safari?
Most people do, and most people are glad they did. The contrast - from the intensity of the bush to the stillness of the Indian Ocean - makes both experiences richer. The most popular combination is 3-5 days in the Serengeti followed by 4-6 nights on Zanzibar.
Is Zanzibar safe for travelers?
Yes. Zanzibar is a popular international tourism destination with an established infrastructure. The same common-sense precautions apply as anywhere: be aware of your surroundings, respect local customs (Zanzibar is predominantly Muslim - modest dress in Stone Town is appreciated), and don't leave valuables unattended on the beach.
What is included in a Zanzibar package?
Typically: airport transfers, hotel accommodation, Stone Town tour, at least one activity (Mnemba snorkeling or dhow sunset), and all breakfasts. Additional activities are available and we'll recommend based on your interests. We'll specify exactly what is included in your proposal.
Hoe lang van tevoren moet ik Zanzibar boeken?
For peak season (June to October), 6-8 months ahead is advisable for the best beach hotels. The top boutique properties at Nungwi and Matemwe book out far in advance. For shoulder seasons, 2-4 months is usually sufficient.
Can I visit Zanzibar without doing a safari?
Absolutely. Zanzibar is a fully self-contained destination. Many travelers come purely for the island - Stone Town, beaches, snorkeling, and the general atmosphere. We are happy to plan a Zanzibar-only trip.
