Uganda is one of Africa's most biodiverse and underrated destinations. Landlocked but lush, it protects more than a third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, holds the highest density of primates on the continent, and packs a staggering range of habitats - from highland rainforest to savannah flatland - into a country barely larger than the United Kingdom.

What sets Uganda apart is intimacy. There are no vast migration herds here - instead, you wade through jungle on a gorilla trail, listen for chimpanzees in Kibale's canopy, and watch tree-climbing lions from the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth. The encounters are rare, quiet, and intensely personal.

Long Dry Season

The best window for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking. Trails are dry, visibility is high, and wildlife congregates near water sources.

October – November

Short Rains

Brief afternoon showers, excellent birding, lush vegetation. A good-value window with fewer visitors and still-accessible trails.

December – February

Short Dry Season

Het tweede gunstige moment voor een trektocht naar de bergtop. Heldere hemel, goed zicht en de berggorillafamilies zijn actief in hun hele leefgebied.

Long Rains

Bij hevige regenval worden sommige paden modderig en moeilijk begaanbaar. De tarieven zijn lager en het bos is intens groen. Nog steeds mogelijk met de juiste touroperator.

How hard is gorilla trekking in Uganda?

Trek difficulty varies from 1–8 hours depending on where the gorillas are that day. It ranges from moderate to strenuous - some steep, muddy terrain. Most reasonably fit people manage it fine. We provide walking sticks and porters.
